Gavanoth

Imagine the world as a tome, its story written as the Rau'n saw it. So many flowing hands would grace the pages of such a tome, yet the final sentence on every page, every story, every chapter… all would be written by one. This is Gavanoth, the Rau'n of Destruction, though such a trite name scarcely describes the service he performs.

Gavanoth is the younger brother of Eos, the Rau'n of Creation. His existence is one of necessity, and that necessity was born so long ago that he is counted among the most ancient and powerful of the Ao. That particular necessity was the need for a culmination to the reckless creation that had so rampantly spread across the newborn world. An ending. That simple desire is the driving force behind his existence, yet he does not simply seek the destruction of anything and everything. Early on Gavanoth grew to understand that no matter how intense his efforts, he could not truly curb his older brother's power. To go so blatantly against the grain was tiring, and the Rau'n began to grow more numerous and powerful as did their realms of influence. This was the point when Gavanoth stopped fighting their wills, and began to use them.

In order to maintain a balance, Gavanoth began to orchestrate events that led to the other Rau'n ultimately achieving what he could not alone; destruction. From the fall of an entire culture to the ruination of a thriving family line, Gavanoth's influence is present in the face of even the most insignificant endings. All the more unsettling is that his delicate touch is so subtle, even the Ao at times are unable to discern whether or not they are acting on their own desires, or Gavanoth's. While controlling events from such a distant position may seem below an Ao of such power, most have come to accept that his guiding hand is as wise as it is firm. Some may find it odd that the Rau'n of Destruction uses subterfuge and manipulation on a scale unfathomable to mortals rather than brute force and aggressive displays of power. Those that wonder will never understand that true power lies in control, a lesson that Gavanoth learned so very long ago.
